EXCLUSIVE: ‘The red sleeve’ actor Kang Hoon talks to us about his acting career and his role on the drama.

Kang Hoon stole viewer’s hearts as the Prince’s “person” in the Korean drama “The red sleeve”. We get to know the actor a bit more in this interview as he talks to us about acting and his hobbies when he isn’t filming.

Since your debut in the web-based drama “Office Watch” in 2017, how do you feel you have evolved as an actor?

I was happy to act then and even now. I think I have grown more than before and there has been visible developments. However, I'm not satisfied with that and I'm determined to work harder.

With some of the downtime that we have experienced during the pandemic, what are some of the projects that you would like to be a part of in the new year?

In 2021, I greeted you through a historical drama. Historical dramas are good, but in the new year I want to return to modern dramas. If it's a good work and a good character, I don't think the genre will matter.

Outside of acting, have there been new hobbies that you have picked up?

In fact, many of the hobbies I have now are related to exercise. I like basketball and soccer. But these days, I'm practicing playing the harmonica. I still lack a lot, but the sound and echo of the harmonica are so good.

Are there any people in the acting industry that you would like to work with?

I want to work with actor Lee Jun-ho again, he worked with me this time in “The red sleeve”. I learned a lot, and I want to meet him in a different kind of work and act together again.

In “The red sleeve” we see your character go from friend to foe. Do you think Hong Deok-Ro overestimated his influence over the king? If so, why do you think that is?

When it comes to overestimating his influence, it can be said that it was an overestimation. I think Hong Deok-ro was confident that whatever he did, he would be forgiven. I thought it was a natural act to protect the king and the king forgave me by expressing himself as my person. As such, things gradually crossed the line, and I think we ended up with death at the end.

Who are actors and/or actresses that inspire you?

Actors who appear in all works. I get goosebumps from actors and seniors who completely become their characters. When I see actors acting like that, I get motivated and get the driving force to work harder.

What words of encouragement would you give to up-and-coming actors?

I'm not an actor who can encourage anyone yet, but I'd like to tell you that I had an experience of not giving up in a long wait. Nevertheless, I was confident about my dreams. Since I dreamt of becoming an actor, I don't think I've ever hesitated and thought about giving up my career as an actor. Perhaps that was the most important center of my life. Thank you so much for the interview. Happy New Year!
