When love finds you. Hometown Cha Cha Cha review

Hometown Cha Cha was the first drama that had me glued to my phone since the first romcom Oh My Ghost in 2015. The moment I saw the casting which included Shin Min Ah, Kim Seon Ho, Lee Sang Yi as leads and Lee Jung Eun guest starring, I knew I had to check out this show. Here’s my review of Hometown Cha Cha Cha (spoilers included).

Hometown Cha Cha Cha starts off with the brilliant but righteous dentist Yoon Hye Jin (Shin Min Ah) who has her life all planned out. She seemingly appears to live a perfect life until her righteous way of living shakes things up and she finds herself relocating to a seashore town of Gonjin. It’s in Gongjin, she meets an unemployed “jack of all trades” Hong Doo Shik (Kim Seon Ho) and this is where our romcom begins to develop.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha had a slightly different approach to a typical K-drama romcom. Although, it’s centred around our fated couple, who we later learn had also met in their youth, the show does not spend every waking second on this, a relief as screen time isn’t wasted on a subject where the viewer eventually loses interest. Our couple, Doo Shik and Hye Jin, confess their feelings early in the show and more time is spent watching them go through the motions of being a couple.

Although, Doo Shik and Hye Jin’s love story was the main storyline, the couple that stole the show has to be Hye Jin’s best friend Pyo Mi Seon and the adorable police constable Choi Eun Chul. An honorable mention would be the building owner Yeo Hwa Ryun and the district head Jang Yeong Guk; all of their stories had a realistic approach which was refreshing to see on screen.

Overall Hometown Cha Cha deserved all the praise and ratings it got and gets an 8 out of 10 from me. It was refreshing to watch from the giggles to the tear jerking moments that we can all relate to. Not to forget that catchy opening “la la la la la all I need is your love.”
