I too want to see butterflies but Nevertheless…

I write this article after just recently escaping the crippling clutches of Park Jae Eon (Song Kang)!

“Nevertheless” follows the lives of college students Park Jae Eon and Yoo Na-Bi (Han So Hee).

Park Jae Eon is obsessed with butterflies and at the beginning of the series you wonder whether these butterflies he speaks off are real or he is referring to the women he sleeps with.

At the beginning of the drama, you are tempted to think that Na-bi doesn’t know what she is doing but she does. This becomes apparent throughout the drama but mostly when we are introduced to Yang Do Hyeok (Chae Jong Hyeop) who is her childhood friend, and he is clear about his feeling for her, and she plays games.

Let’s talk about how quickly Na-bi jumped to conclusions over everything. Jae Eon would receive a call, and the good sis would think it has to be a girlfriend. Can’t be his sister, his aunt, or his mom. She sees him with a girl… well, he must be f*ing her. But I guess that level of insecurity comes with being in a situationship with a Maserati driving F* boy.

This drama had me asking “Do we as women misread actions?”. Just because a guy shows you a bit of kindness, we mistake it for feelings? For more?

I felt like Park Jae Eon would say one thing (I don’t date! I don’t want a relationship!) but his actions at times would be to the contrary thus confusing Na Bi or allowing her to confuse herself. Do we go off what you said Park Jae Eon or the vibes you are sending? (I vote for vibes!).

I honestly don’t blame Na bi for being confused by Park Jae Eon. Same sis! Same! I too want to go see butterflies. We hardly ever choose the Potato boys of this world in our 20s.

The show played into the “he will change for me” narrative. In real life people are stuck in their ways and hardly ever change. She should have chosen herself but maybe choosing him was her choosing herself.

I was also invested in Yoon Sol (Lee Ho Jung) and Seo Ji Wan’s (Yoon Seo Ah) relationship and wished we had been shown its development a bit more. I wanted to see how they would navigate the transition from friends to lovers.

We literally got character development on episode 9 when the series only had 10 episodes. However, I found the show relatable and for that reason I rate it 7/10.
