WHY SONG KANG IS THE KING OF NETFLIX…AND OUR HEARTS ♥️!

Song Kang for ARENA HOMME April Issue (2020)

2021 has been an EXCEPTIONAL year for K-Drama, especially on Netflix. But none can claim that more than the oh-so swoon-worthy Song Kang…*cue the swoons*. We’ve watched him climb the ladder, leaving stellar impressions from his Love Alarm days when he played the forthright and lovesick puppy Hwang Sun Ho. Despite his lukewarm ending in the interesting Netflix Original Series, Song Kang’s character stayed in the hearts of many with his blunt confessions of love, heartwarming bromance to his best friend, and troubling family dynamic….also body-ody-ody-ody!

Whether it was due to his pulse racing and epic performance in the Netflix Horror Original, Sweet Home, or our continuous search for his name, Song Kang undoubtedly cemented himself as a Netflix Star! But exactly, how did he manage to wedge himself into our hearts? Let’s review!

Song Kang for GRAZIA KOREA May Issue (2019)

One of the most remarkable things Navillera taught us was that anyone can reach their dream with a little bit of help. After being confronted by the mortality of his life, all Shim Deok-chul wants to do is to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a ballet dancer at the belated age of 70-years-old. However, with the immensely talented Lee Chae Rok, a temperamental 23-year-old as his ballet coach, he tries his very best to make it to the stage and finally soar. Through all the drama of dealing with the burdens of life, the responsibilities, and the unresolved emotions that are a result of these burdens this drama still managed to showcase the blossoming of a very special relationship between these two characters.

While it was probably Park In-Hwan’s performance that had us blowing our noses the most, it was Song Kang’s icy yet heartbreaking vulnerability that made us all but give him a warm hug. As well as Song Kang doing what Song Kang does best and pulling us in with his striking but dreamy magnetism that makes us feel all warm inside. Sis, just roll the tapes to see what I’m talking about:

Now onto his latest and steamiest works…Nevertheless (jinja jinja… ANGIKHO right guys!). Probably one of K-drama’s most recently scandalous series is the Netflix Original Series, Nevertheless. A series that tries to make commentary on contemporary dating and the lengths we’ll go to win at our own games, no matter how much we lose.

Following Han So-hee as Yoo Na-bi, an art student romantic who has reemerged into singlehood, she meets the enticing yet aloof Park Jae-eon. It’s at this point all the red flags turn green and the two entangle themselves in a physical relationship where emotional boundaries are played in a constant push and pull until eventually, real feelings are on the line (yoh nka screama ghore!). Han So-Hee does a fantastic job at capturing the modern-day complexities of trying to figure out how to turn a temporary relationship into a permanent one… or a temporary solution into a permanent problem. But it’s Song Kang’s portrayal of the modern-day player that struck us all! Had it not been for his attentive yet teasing approach to playing this Cassanova, we would not have truly felt the dilemma that Na-bi was in. Song Kang gets the game, and he plays it well (a little too well) but here are the receipts if you don’t believe me:

At this point, is it any wonder why Song Kang is the King of Netflix! He has featured in four Netflix Originals and we foresee him bagging many more! But above his major success, he has bagged all of our hearts with his acting prowess and rugged yet innocent good looks!

Song Kang for GQ KOREA June Issue (2021)

Although he might be taking a break from Netflix to go dominate other platforms such as JTBC with his new show Weather People set to debut in February 2022 alongside Park Min Young, he won’t be taking a break from making our hearts flutter!
