INTERVIEW: ‘Light on me’ cast member Go Woo Jin talks to us about his role and friendship
Go Woo Jin who plays Namgung brings his sense of humour as he tells us how he brought his character to life and captured the hearts of many.
To the reader who hasn’t watched “Light on me” yet, who is Go Woo Jin?
Hello. I'm Go Woo-Jin, I play the role of Namgung, the cute cupid of love in “Light on me!”
What were some of the difficulties of filming during the pandemic?
In my careful opinion, the actors didn't have any difficulties. I think it must have been very difficult for the drama staff. We worked hard while acting too, but the staff always wore masks, so it must have been very difficult for them. Once again, thank you for the support.
Do you have any favourite scenes from the drama series?
I like the scene where Namgung tells Noh Shin-Woo, "If you're tired, take it out." It's hard to just keep it in when you're having a hard time, but I think it's better to solve it by telling someone you rely on or love. I thought everyone would like it, so I picked this scene as my favorite because I think the audience might feel a lot of emotions watching it.
Go Woo Jin, your character on the show was loved by many as you provided good advice to the other student council members and also offered comic relief, Do you have any common traits with the character you played on the show?
This is Namgung! When I look back on my real life as Go Woo-Jin, the thing I have in common with Namgung is that I listen to my friend’s concerns well, so I think my friends are usually the first to tell me about their concerns. I am also quick-witted, so I think these two things are the most common between myself and Namgung. I am also the same in seeing friends as they are and without prejudice
What went into preparing for your role on the show?
First, I had to relieve the heavy atmosphere in the drama itself, so I thought a lot about how and by what means I could relieve the heaviness of scenes even if it’s just a little bit. Since Namgung was a character that listened to the worries many friends, I think I tried to look at everything without prejudice.
We live in a world that is still not very accepting, to a young fan who might be going through bullying because of who they like, what do you want them to take away from the show and the character you played on the show?
I think you should be your happiest self. Whether it's love, studying, or anything else, I hope you don’t look at others like Namgung. Have confidence and don't belittle yourself. Always think about who ‘me’ is and don’t not lose that ‘me’~~
With the great reception of your characters on “Light on me” and the success of the show in general, are we getting a second season?
I want to do season 2, but just because I want to do it doesn't mean I can do it... haha...
What other characters would you like to play in the future?
In the future, I want to become an actor with a diverse acting spectrum. Among them, I want to play a role like the character Gi-Tae in the movie 'The Watchman' or the captain of a student soldier in a period drama.
Long term what do you hope to achieve in your careers?
I started acting because I liked it, but I think I should always be the best, so shouldn't I win the grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival??
To someone who is just starting in the entertainment industry, what would you tell them?
Fighting! I think everyone will agree with this word.
