We catch up with ‘Shooting stars’ actor Lee Jung Shin
You started with CNBlue when you were very young, how do you think your art as a musician has evolved as you enter your 30s?
As the years go by, I think I've become more concerned about finding CNBLUE's own color while keeping pace with the trend and music changing to some extent. I don't think much has changed inside.
The transition from an artist to an actor can be quite demanding, we would like to know who helped you most in your journey?
It is not a transition. I am still a CNBLUE singer, bassist and an actor and will continue to be. I think the people who helped me the most are my family.
As many more idols begin to explore being both an idol and an actor do you have any words of wisdom to encourage them on their journey?
I think it's too early for me to tell you a good story, but I think we all feel the same way. If you work hard in your respective positions as you believe, a good day will come someday.
In your recent interview with Sports Chosun, you mentioned that you received 4-5 scripts before deciding to play the role of Do Soo Hyuk in Shooting Stars, what are some of the factors that you consider in a script before deciding on a role to play?
I think it's the size of my confidence regarding whether I can express the character well. I always think about it. As a result, I fall into a swamp, and the process of trying to come out again is good.
You also mentioned that you don’t always keep up with responses regarding dramas you’ve starred in. Has this helped you to disconnect with negativity that can be found online? How else do you cope with pressures of super stardom?
I'm not good at online communities. I'm listening with some consideration, but it doesn't really leave much damage or lingering effects on me. I like to get feedback, but I accept it to a certain extent and leave it to a certain extent. I don't think I'm a superstar.
Since your debut as an actor, most of the shows you have starred in have been romance based (e.g. Romantic comedies and romantic dramas). Do you desire to step out of that genre? And what do you see yourself doing?
I never thought I wanted to get away. I really like romantic dramas and I want to continue doing them, but from now on, I want to do more various genres of acting. For example, I want to act in a thriller or a villain these days.
What about Do Soo Hyuk made you gravitate towards the character and how did you prepare to play Do Soo Hyuk?
First of all, it was good because he had a talkative personality, and also because he was a character that was expressive in actions and words. Since he is a lawyer, I thought he would look good with a straight posture or a confident attitude.
As a musician and actor, you have garnered many fans from your activities. Do you think your fans know you the most as a musician or actor?
There are a lot of things I haven't shown you yet. I want to do my best to show a variety of good things through my future activities.
We would love to hear more solo projects from you, should we expect more music from you soon?
I don't know about solo projects, but I will continue to work hard to show you various and memorable music and stages as a member of CNBLUE.
As an actor and an artist are you comfortable receiving feedback on your work?
I like to get feedback. I often see feedback from fans on Instagram through dm. I'm always grateful.
The pandemic had a profound impact on so many bands being unable to create music or perform live, can we expect a comeback from CNBlue as the world begins to open?
Of course. As soon as the situation gets better, I want to perform CNBLUE music, that's what I always want.
You are a talented individual. What sort of acting roles and genres are you looking forward to in the future?
As for the genre, I want to try more diverse genres. Of course, romantic comedies are great, but I also have a great desire to try genres that I haven't tried. I want to play a villain, but I hope good work comes in. Please show a lot of support. Thank you.
