Briefly introduce yourself to someone who hasn’t seen the show

Hello! I'm Yang Seo-Hyun, a rookie actress who plays the role of Lee So-Hee, the vice president of Saebit Girls High School, in the drama “Light on me”.

What were some of the difficulties of filming during the pandemic, if any?

As I filmed in the COVID-19 crisis, I tried to refrain from going out as much as possible and avoid causing pressure on the drama on days when there was no filming, but I still felt a little uncomfortable because of anxiety. The makeup team carefully transformed me from Yang Seo-Hyun to Lee So-Hee every shoot, but I had to wear a mask outside of filming, so I remember that I was always careful not to ruin my makeup.

Yang Seo Hyun, Your character Lee So Hee has the longest crush on Shin Da On when it is clear that he will never see her as anything more than a friend. Do you think her actions were justified given the fact that Shin Da On knows how she feels but continues to avoid having the unpleasant conversation about him not seeing her as more than a friend?

If I think about it as Yang Seo-Hyun, not So-Hee, I think that one-sided love is selfish and puts a great burden on the other person. If you really love someone, you have to understand the other person's heart, but So-hee's way of love, where only her feelings were more important, is too immature. It's unjustifiable behavior from my point of view, but since So Hee's ego had to be shown as a character, I always tried to understand So Hee. So, I always tried to optimise the character's emotional dialogue rather than being judgmental of her.

What went into preparing for your role on the drama?

So-hee's directness and her ability to say no if she doesn't like something was something that I lacked, so I found and studied characters that express emotions directly in movies and dramas.

Do you have any favourite scenes from the drama series?

Personally, the scene I remember the most is the scene at Mr Seo Haet Bit's birthday party, when we put a timer on the camera, and we all gathered together and looked at each other and smiled brightly. It felt like all the kids seemed stable and happy.

We live in a world that is still not very accepting, to a young fan who might be going through bullying because of who they like, what do you want them to take away from the show and the characters you played on the show?

I hope the feeling of love that fans feel doesn't hurt, but as the question says, we seem to be living in a world where everything is not recognized.  Like Noh Shin Woo said ‘Things that are correct in themselves even if you don’t look for a reason. Someone must be thinking that you are the right answer for no reason.’ I hope you don't lose faith in yourself and know that you can be the right answer to someone.

What other characters would you like to play in the future?

In the future I want to play a character that leaves a strong impression in the noir genre or a character that shows empathy and reveals subtle emotions in the romance genre.

You are all young and very talented actors, long term what do you hope to achieve in your career?

I want to be an actor who can consistently act in front of fans for a long time portraying various characters in various works.

For someone who is just starting in the entertainment industry, what would you tell them?

Thankfully, I just started my job as an actress through the drama “Light on me” and for those like me, perhaps the thing I want to say the most is I'm still anxious and I may doubt myself, but let’s believe in ourselves and have confidence above anyone else!
