Extraordinary Kim Young Dae! An interview
He shot right through our hearts with his performances in shows like Penthouse, Extraordinary you and Shooting stars. On this interview, actor Kim Young Dae talks to us about acting, growth and the tourist destination he wishes to visit now that the world is opening back up.
When did you realize that acting was a career you wanted to pursue, and did you ever find yourself doubtful of your success in the future?
Acting was a dream that started from having joined the current agency. From when I began acting, I have had a desire to do better, and that desire still remains. If I continue to work hard rather than think about future success first, I think there will be a status that can be called success naturally.
You have come a long way since your debut. What would you say has been the reason for your consistent growth within the industry?
I think that, thankfully people recognize that I'm growing up in many ways.
What steps do you take to fully understand the importance of your character to the story?
I study and learn the character and adapt it to myself.
Looking at the character you played in “extraordinary you” and in “shooting stars” respectively, are there any similarities between you and these 2 characters?
I think they are similar in having high self-esteem.
From the beginning it is clear that Gong Tae Seong has feelings for Oh Han Byul. what do you think might have prevented him from communicating his feelings better and in a more mature way?
It seems that Tae Seong went through the time of trial and error because he was poor at expression. But gradually, he realized his true feelings and started expressing them.
You feature in many adverts and dramas, what hobbies or activities do you do to maintain balance in your life?
I usually watch movies, do exercise and I like to travel when I have time.
Given your success in acting, what do you think has helped you stay focused on your craft as an actor, despite numerous challenges that come with success?
I feel that I need to focus more because I still lack a lot in acting. But there was a lot of help from people around me. As time passes, I have the desire to try various challenges.
long term, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I think I'll still be on the set.
What would your fans be most surprised to learn about?
I've been thinking about it, but there’s nothing different. Because I'm the same person ☺
With the world slowly opening again, which tourist destinations do you wish to visit soon?
I want to visit the African continent because I haven’t been there. ☺
