INTERVIEW: ‘Happiness’ actor Lee Joo Seung talks acting and what we can look forward to in 2022
Whether it’s theatre or on screen, Lee Joo Seung will capture and captivate you with his many talents and performances. Given his extensive experience we needed to get to know him more with this exclusive interview.

You seem to be a well-seasoned actor, especially because of how long you’ve been in the industry. Is there anything that still surprises you in your field?
I don't think acting for a long time is a job that you can adapt to. Different scenarios, directing, steps, and actors who appear together keep changing every time, and we have to adapt to them every time. Ironically, I'm not surprised because I'm always ready to be surprised.

Your fans have expressed how much they love you in thrillers and horrors. What are your favourite genres?
I prefer genres that focus on people's stories and instincts. I like stories about characters who realistically overcome their situations.
Is there any other genre you would like to play in the future?
I played a lot of dark and cool roles. Of course, I like horror/thriller genres, but I also want to participate in movies that contain warm stories.

What do you still hope to achieve within the entertainment industry?
I don't think the role of an actor is a job that goes as intended. However, as a person who can continue to think and always grow, I hope to be an actor who draws various characters.
Are there any people in the acting industry that you would like to work with?
There are so many actors I like, I can't pinpoint them. :) Rather than anyone else, I want to work with an actor with whom I can create new synergies.
Looking back at your journey within the industry, what advice would you give to yourself looking back?
Instead of giving up and being satisfied, I want to talk about becoming an actor who works hard until he becomes a good actor. Sometimes I give up when I don't know too much, and when that happens, I want to tell you to understand the text in detail and try it from more angles.
How did you prepare for the role of Andrew in “Happiness”? he was a serial killer that nobody suspected until the end.
I learned that curiosity is amplified when people seem to know but are ambiguous. Some hints are given, but the focus is on making it impossible to grasp. It's never easy to act, but it's fun. Even the other actors in the drama did not know Andrew's identity. When I acted while hiding my identity from the other actors, I acted thinking, "How should I act to hide it?"
In “Happiness”, you play a mysterious character until his true nature is revealed in the end. To get rid of some of the mystery around Lee Joo Seung for South African fans, what are 3 things about you fans would be surprised to know?
My surprising story is that first, I'm just normal. Second, I'm also interested in my fans, just as my fans are interested in me. However, beyond fans I observe and feel people widely and I express these feelings through acting. Third, if you search Lee Joo-Seung on Google or visit my Instagram, the mystery will disappear. :)
Your fans are eager to know, what can they expect from you in 2022?
Many works await. There is also a genre like ‘Happiness’, and there will be completely different stories and completely different characters. So please don't forget to wait.
